Mapping up Business for ANP Members

The Association of Negros Producers is a business support organization established to develop socially-responsible entrepreneurs to grow their business and contribute to the economic growth of Negros Island.

It is comprised to manufacturers and producers from five sectors:  Gift and Housewares, Furniture & Furnishing, Fashion and Garments, Processed Food and Natural and Organic Products.

Since they are all into business, GBG Bacolod partnered to introduce Google tools to improve their businesses.

GSA Bacolod were tapped as speakers during the event.

One to one sessions were implemented  during the workshop.

They're proud to wear the Google shirts!

Sipalay Geo Walk

Here we come, Sipalay!

Finally, we were able to set the date and got confirmed to go just three days before the event.  So here I am with the GSA Bacolod team (we missed Benj here) en route to a weekend in Sipalay City to map and update resorts and  other tourism establishments.

Sipalay is the jewel of the province of Negros Occidental.  It is a coastal town lined with beach resorts mostly owned by Europeans who have settled cum retired here.  It has also one of the best diving spots in the country which accounts the presence of visiting European dive instructors at the resorts.

On board the slow bus to Sipalay City.

Upon our arrival, we made a courtesy call to Sipalay City Mayor Oscar Montilla, Jr. who provided us with a service vehicle and his staff, Mark, to bring us around the area.

I've always loved island hopping in Sipalay on board a motorboat.  And this view from Perth Paradise Resort is so breathtaking.  Warning for the faint hearted but I'm glad I was able to make it to the top climbing the steps slowly in the early afternoon sun.  But the view is so fantastic!  I could just gaze at this view all day long.

Our tour guide, Mark Torillo, spent his weekend with us bringing us to the various resorts and tourist attractions in Sipalay City.

Our hosts at Driftwood Village Resort who served the best carbonara I've ever tasted.  And the chocolate muffins that Daisy has perfected!

Can you count how many carafes were formed to make this triangle?

Behind is Cansibit Pit, the remnants of the closed Maricalum Mining Corporation.

GBG Bacolod Initial Meetup

Finally!

Google Business Group for Bacolod had its initial meetup last May 3, 2013 at 21 Restaurant.  It was attended by 61 people composed  travel agents, web developers, bloggers, resort owners, real estate brokers,  doctors, manufacturers, financial & business consultants.

How did it all start?

As a travel blogger, Anne Olvido would invite us to her Google events.  Anne is also a Google volunteer handling the developers' group in Bacolod called the GDG Bacolod or Google Developers Group.  Having seen the content of the topics, I thought that this would be a good opportunity to be shared to the business community of Bacolod.  So many, many months later or a week before the May 3, 2013 meetup date, Anne informed me that a Googler (someone who works at Google) would be in Bacolod for an event and would I be able to organize a meetup soon?  Huh?  Been waiting for this to happen.

So, yes!!!  Using social media and SMS to invite participants were under way.  Registrations forms were sent online and 45 signed up but 61 came!

At the initial meetup, SEA Outreach Head Aileen Apolo-de Jesus, GDG Bacolod Manager Anne Olvido, Mapmaker Loy Empio were the speakers.  Google tools such as GMail, Google+ and Mapmaker were introduced to the attendees.

For GBG Bacolod, more events to come.
